YAPC 2012

Brian and i sawl each other a few times at other Perl Mongers meetings. But the next time we got to hang out was at YAPC::NA June 12 to June 16. It was in Madison, WI that year. The place was beautiful. The hotel we stayed at was right off the lake. We hung out almost the whole conference (for the exception of a few talks).  At the cPanel party, all the drinks were named after something Perl:

  • The Onion (the Perl logo) – A pearl onion martini
  • The Mariposa (for Perl 6’s logo) – a pink layered martini
  • The Larry Wall (the creator of Perl) – an Irish cream de liquor shot
  • About 3-4 others that I cannot remember

i really liked “The Larry Wall” so i would get a round for each of us and we would slam them. i did this about 10 times. Needless to say we all got trashed. Brian, Kenneth, Nick, Chris, myself and about 2 others. Brian got so drunk that He told Chris “I know that you know that I know what she is…” Neither Chris or i knew what He was talking about at the time. Brian needed assistance back to hotel so i helped. He could not walk by Himself.

The next night Brian, Kenneth, Nick, Chris and i played Rummy in the hospitality room. That was the first time He heard me snort when laughing. It became a game to see how many times they could make me do it.

That was one of the best YAPC’s in my opinion. It was the first time that i got to really know Brian.

Here is an image from Google maps of where the hotel was and where the talks were located. Also the University of Wisconsin – Madison‘s logo, and a picture of Madison from Affiliated Engineers.
