Engaged – The Story of Bugs

Here it is…How it happened. On the morning of June 7th, 2014, Brian and i showered and i started getting ready for the day. i noticed He seemed a little anxious about something and when i asked Him about it He said He was fine. After i had my face on, i made Brian breakfast of warmed monkey bread and orange juice. Then i started to clean up the wrapping paper and organizing the gifts He got for His birthday the day before. He wolfed down His breakfast (which is unusual for Him to eat quickly at all). i was still cleaning up the birthday stuff when He finished. He asked me, “Do you have to do that now?”

“Yes,” i replied “i don’t want to leave a mess in Your mom’s kitchen…”

He could not argue with that, so He impatiently watched me finish. Again, i noticed His highly anxious state again but did not say anything this time.

After all the stuff was cleaned up, He took me outside to the back yard. Knowing i am allergic to grass He brought 2 beach towels to sit on. He wanted to lay in the grass and watch the clouds. He told me that He would like to do that a couple of days ago. How much more romantic can He be? i mean seriously…laying on the grass in the fresh air…snuggling my Captain…watching clouds and life drift by slowing in His arms?

Here is were it gets goot. We were laying on the grass for about five minutes and i get bit by a mosquito. Great… So i sit up and observe my limbs for more bugs. i get bit again. i look at Brian and say, “i’m done. i got bit twice. i want to go inside.”

“What? Just a few more minutes, please.”

“Fine.”

i lay back down and snuggle into Him. About a minute later i got bit again.”That’s it. i got bit again. i am done. i want to go inside.”

He sits up and looks at me. Then He looks across the backyard. “I think there is something interesting in that tree. You should go check it out.”

i look at the tree (the tree in the header picture on the main page to be exact). i look back at Him. “Yea…bugs. Bugs are in that tree. i want to go inside.”

He seemed stunned for just a second. “No, really…you should go look at that tree. There looks like something interesting about it.”

i look back at the tree and see a bumble bee hovering around the base of it. i may or may not be allergic to bees (had a reaction when i was little). i look back at Him and say “Yea there is a bee over there. Definitely bugs, no i am not going over there. i want to go inside.”

He give me this exasperated look and looks back at the tree. my eyes follow His and we see bunnies hopping around. We sit and watch while they hop and play. When they are gone He looks at me and says, “Really…you need to go look at that tree.”

i look back at the tree and see a yellow jacket flying our way. i freak out and hug His arm and ask “There is a wasp. NO!”

“Yes.”

“Are you telling me to?”

“Yes, I am telling you to go look at the tree.”

i grudgingly hold out my hands for Him to assist me up (since He is always the gentleman). He helps me up and starts to lead me to the tree with all the bugs and bees. i walk slowly looking all around for bees, wasps, or any other bug.

We get to the tree and He directs me to look at center of it where all the trunks meet to make a big trunk. i see a wrapped package about 3X4 inches. It is not a ring, i thought to myself, no way that box is too big. “Get it.” He instructs.

“No, there are bugs in there” as i watch ants climbing on the mini trunks.

“Yes. Get it.”

i look at Him like He is asking me to do the most grossest thing on the planet. i reach in and grab the package and half throw it at Him. It was His present right? It was His birthday after all. He hands me back the package and i look at Him confused. “It is for you. Open it.”

Now even more confused, i look at it more closely. Why is He giving me a present on His birthday? Turning it over i see the “Ahee” label. i knew that it was the jeweler that His family goes to for the special stuff like wedding bands, engagement rings, birthday stuffs…you know the special jewelry. It was not a ring. The box was too big. “What did You do?”

“Open it.”

i open it and it was a pearl necklace. The most beautiful necklace i have ever seen. i look up at Him and He says, “angela, will you marry me?”

Stunned i say “Yes” quietly. He helps take it out of the box and put it on. When it was on, i hugged Him and burried my face in His neck. my eyes are tearing and my face starts to melt. “Great, now my face is melting.”

All He could do was laugh.
