Meeting the Father

On April 16, 2014 it was my nephew Mikey’s (AKA the ring bearererer) birthday. my Dad was in town for it. We went to Chuckie Cheese to play games, eat pizza, see the big scary mouse and have fun.

On the way there Brian was nervous. Of course it did not help that i told Him horror stories of how my Dad said hello to previous men in my life. Here is the story…

my first boyfriend with a car came to pick me up for my first serious date. i met him out at the curb. We walked up to the house together. my Dad had a dirty shovel standing up next to the door. my boyfriend at the time looked at it and said he thought my Dad was doing some yard work. When we open the front door you see a perfect view of the couch. my Dad was cleaning His double barrel shot gun with other guns laying on the ground. my boyfriend stopped dead in his tracks and just stared. my Dad closes the gun and lifts it to “check the aim” at the window to our left. All He said was:

“What time she gonna be home?”

“12, sir…” my boyfriend replied weakly.

“Good.”

No, “Hi, I’m Bob.”. No polite conversation. Just “What time she gonna be home?” i bounced over to my Dad and kissed Him goodbye and left. We were supposed to go to dinner and see a movie. We went to dinner and skipped the movie. i was home by 10. He was so scared of me being late.

After hearing that Brian said He started to freak out a little more. In my opinion He had every right to. my Dad was protective. He loves His little girl. On the drive to Chuckie Cheese i told Him to just be Himself, my Dad would love Him as He is because they were very similar… Both from the Detroit Metro area, both Red Wings fans, both into muscle cars, both very personable people, both take charge and dominating personalities. What’s not to love!?!?

Once we got there, i introduced Brian and my Dad said “Hi”. Brian was wearing a old Red Wings shirt (not like old and beat up but one that He had for a while…it looked “not new for the occasion”). my Dad immediately asked about it and they went from there. They got along well from the get-go. Jill was a little harder to convince. She came around and loves Him too.

my Dad and Jill were here for about a week and we sawl them 3 times. The last visit, my Dad and Jill thanked Brian separately. “Thank you for bringing her back to us.” i had written off family for the most part when i was with my ex.

my Dad’s warm welcome to Brian was great. It further cemented how much we belong together.
