New Directions

An old friend of Brian’s messaged Him out of the blue and wanted to know if He knew any ScrumMasters. With me being one, He said yes. On November 21st we flew to Michigan for an interview. His was about becoming the support manager, His dream job, and mine was to see about becoming a ScrumMaster for their non-Scrum development team.

They showed us around and talked to both of us, telling us about the perks of the company, what they do, how they are expanding. The owner was so proud when he was showing us around.

Then came the big part…the individual interviews. Brian stayed with the owner and a few heads of the company and i went with Brian’s friend and the lead developer to talk Scrum. i thought i did really well. i was able to answer all of their questions, give examples…everything. They told me that they were not ready for Scrum.

However, they wanted Brian. He has the leadership skills that they were looking for. At first we were not sure if it was something that we wanted. There were a lot of factors to consider. Being close to family vs pay cut, more responsibility vs not, not working together anymore. The last one was one of my biggest ones to think about. It took a little back and forth and after some courting, we decided over the holidays that with Brian being the main bread winner, He should be happy doing it. We went with the new company.

If things were not stressful enough with planning a wedding, we have to add a move across country to it. Oh did I mention buying a house too!?
