Trying to make a baby

When i had my last child, i had a cauterized tubal for medical reasons – i cannot take birth control and i am allergic to latex. That limited my options to very expensive sheepskin “hats”, abstaining, or a tubal. i chose the tubal. i knew that if i wanted another one, i did not want to chance having another boy and if it was done with IVF, there was gender selection available.

This does not mean that they can “make” boys or girls but that they do a DNA test on the eggs that were fertilized and let you know if it was a boy or girl and you can decide which to “put back in”. The other benefit of this is that they do a test for 214 different birth defects including down syndrome.

Brian has no kids and He wants them. i want to give them to Him. i have always wanted to have a large family. When i was younger, i wanted 7 children – two sets of twins (boy and girl set) and a set of triplets (didnt care of the sex).

On November 11th, we started the whole IVF process. Over the last summer we already had the consultation and the preliminary exams and checks. Last week we took the education class on how to mix and administrate the medication and the medication arrived.

i had to have shots every evening in my tummy and they burned. i have a phobia with needles so Lynn had to come over and lay across me to do them. Did i say they burned? They really did. Well we had to do shots every night for about 10 days. Every other morning i had to get up at 5:30am to be at the office by 6:30am (it was a 45 min drive with no traffic) so they can do an ultrasound of my ovaries to watch the follicles grow where the egg is housed.

As they grew my ovaries went from the size of an almond to the size of an apple. It was painful and very “filling”. i had a hard time sleeping because of the pressure. In the end they were able to harvest 18 eggs.

Then we had to wait to see what fertilized.
